Parkdale is a city centre (formerly inner city) Calgary community that features single family homes, condo apartments, and side-by-side duplexes for sale, with most properties being single family houses. Inside this inner city neighborhood, expect to see a few luxury homes and estates, along with some infill houses. Expect there to be more than a few students wandering the streets thanks to Parkdale’s close proximity to the University of Calgary.

 

Parkdale is bounded by the Foothills Hospital and 16th Avenue NW to the north, 28th Street NW to the east, the Bow River to the south, and Bowness Road and Shaganappi Trail to the west.

Amenities

The beautiful Bow River runs along the southern edge of the community, and comes complete with walking paths and picnic opportunities. If you’re willing to make the trek across the river (using a bridge, of course!) you’ll end up in Edworthy Park. Parkdale Park is also in the area, though it is much smaller. Other outdoor facilities include an outdoor skating rink and a play field.

 

University of Calgary students will love being able to walk to school – and they’ll also love being able to walk to a variety of small, locally-owned restaurants on 3rd Avenue NW.

 

The local community centre offers sports programs for the youngsters, and various seniors programs for individuals with a bit more tread on the tires.

 

Schools serving the community include Foothills Academy, Parkdale Elementary, Briar Hill School, and Queen Elizabeth High School.

 

Transit

Not only are University of Calgary students within walking distance, but so are any staff members working at Foothills Hospital. If you have a vehicle, you’ll be leaving the neighborhood by either taking 16th Avenue NW or hopping onto Crowchild Trail. Public transit users can take a long walk to both Banff C-train Station and Lions Park C-train Station, or they can hop on the #1 Bowness – Forest Lawn or the #40 Crowfoot / North Hill bus lines to get there a bit faster.

 

Lifestyle

Ask a Parkdale resident and they’ll tell you that one of the most popular past times is grabbing a locally made sandwich at the ever-popular Lazy Loaf and then sitting on the benches at the Bow River. Once you’ve finished eating, you can either stay and people watch, walk along the river, or hop on your bike and cycle through the area.

 

In the winter, put on your skates and test out the outdoor skating rink.
