In 1988, the Olympics came to Calgary, and the community of Bowness has continued to benefit. With Canada Olympic Park just on the other side of Highway 1, living in this neighborhood means you’re a short hop away from skiing, snowboarding, hockey, skating, mountain biking, and even careening down a bobsled track. Want a more relaxing afternoon? Bowness Park and Bowmont Park are both right next to the Bow River – perfect for a stroll on a sunny day. Grab a book from the Bowness Library, find a bench, and dip into a fantasy world while the river runs by. If shopping is more your thing, there are a ton of shops, restaurants, and pubs along Bowness Road. Bowness High School and Belvedere Parkway School are both in the community.

 

Transit

Look around in the spring and summer and you’ll see plenty of cyclists – both cruising around the community and down by the river. 16th Avenue NW, Stoney Trail, and Sarcee Trail remain the best ways to get out of the community and see the rest of the city. The #1 Bowness – Forest Lawn route takes residents directly to downtown, and university students are only a short drive away from the University of Calgary.

 

Lifestyle

On a summer’s day pack your picnic basket full of your favourites: sandwiches, strawberries, juice, and of course – a checkered blanket. Then, head down to Bowness Park for a beautiful view of the river and the lagoon. If you’re up for it, rent a canoe and paddle around. Or in the winter, go for a skate with the whole family.

 

Once you move to Bowness, there’s a good chance you’ll get interested in cycling – with the popular BowCycle in the neighborhood, along with the sheer amount of cyclists riding around, it’s impossible not to show enthusiasm for the sport.
