Bridlewood is a south (formerly southwest) Calgary community that features single family homes, condo apartments, and duplexes for sale, with the majority of properties being single family houses. It’s a new neighborhood, and has one very special feature: the east side of the community is a natural wetland full of unique plant and animal life. On weekends, it’s not uncommon to see bird watchers hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the over two dozen types of birds in the area. This community is bounded by 162 avenue SW to the north, James Mckevitt Road to the east, 22X to the south, and Bridlecrest Street to the west.

Amenities

Where you have a wetland, you have a green space. A number of pathways wind through the area, allowing residents to get up close and personal with the diverse mix of wildlife. But don’t fret – despite being on the western edge of the city, you can still find signs of humanity! There are various stores in the area, including a Sobeys on the north side of the community. Bridlewood School and Samuel W. Shaw School both service the area.

 

Transit

Looking for a quick getaway out of the city? Highway 22X runs along the southern edge of the community and get you out enjoying country life faster than you can snap your fingers. Alternatively, you can also take it to get on Deerfoot Trail or Stoney Trail – though many residents prefer to use Macleod Trail. Spruce Meadows is close, and the Somerset – Bridlewood C-train station is within walking distance. The #11 Southwest Loop is one of the bus lines that services the area.

 

Lifestyle

Bridlewood is suburban living at its finest. Grab a pair of binoculars and a picnic basket, then head down for an afternoon in the wetlands and see how many different types of birds you can spot. Or, if you’d rather keep your legs moving, hike around the various paths. Attending a Spruce Meadows event – perhaps the Canada Day fireworks? – is also a favourite among residents. Or perhaps you just want to relax in your backyard and enjoy the atmosphere of this family friendly community.
