Chaparral (also known as Chaparral Valley) is a south (formerly SE) Calgary community that features single family houses, townhomes, and duplexes for sale, with the majority of properties being 2-storey single family homes. This is one of Calgary’s premiere lake communities. If you look across the glistening water, past the swimming children and canoeing families, you’ll see a handful of luxury homes and estates in this new neighborhood. Chaparral is bounded by Highway 22X on the north, the Bow River Valley to the east, 194 Avenue SE on the south, and Macleod Trail on the west.

Amenities

Chaparral Lake, a 32 acre man-made lake, is at the center of this community. Residents are able to rent boats, swim, dive, and go fishing. When winter comes and the lake freezes over, it’s common to grab a hockey stick, put on your skates, and go out for a game. If you’re looking to stay out of the water, Chaparral Lake Park and Chapala Park are both absolutely serene green spaces. The Blue Devil Golf Club is in the area, and while there aren’t many stores in the neighborhood, there is a shopping complex just to the south of the community. Schools in Chaparral include Chaparral Elementary School and St. Sebastian Elementary School.

 

Transit

Chaparral is a suburban community on the southern edge of the city – but fear not! Stoney Trail and Macleod Trail are both close by, providing access to the north side of the city and downtown, respectively. Should you not want to spring for parking in the downtown core, you can take a short drive to the Somerset – Bridlewood C-train station. The #78 Sundance/Chaparral bus line services the area.

While this suburban community may leave you with a little bit of a commute, the benefits to you and your family can not be beat. Tour the neighborhood on a summer evening and you’ll smell steaks sizzling on the grill, hear laughter in backyards, and see children biking down to the lake.

 

Early mornings, hop into a rented boat, make your way to the middle of Chaparral Lake, and drop your fishing line into the depths. Not into fishing?
