The best part about living in Sunalta? It’d have to be the proximity to downtown – you can either walk to work, or you can hop on the C-train and be at your office in minutes. Sunalta is a city centre (formerly inner city) Calgary community that features a wide array of condo apartments, single family homes, and townhouses for sale, with the majority of properties being condos. Cruise through the streets and you’ll find mature poplar trees, lots of people, and infill houses.

 

Sunalta is bounded on the north by the Bow River, on the east by 14th Street SW, on the south by 17th Avenue SW, and on the west by Crowchild Trail.

Amenities

Royal Sunalta Park – which is home to the Calgary Tennis Club – and the Bow River are the two major outdoor facilities in the area, though there is also an outdoor skating rink. If you’re a fan of golf, you’ll love having Shaganappi Point Golf Course a short stroll to the west.

 

If shopping is what you’re after, you’ll find plenty of it. On 10th Avenue SW you can find smaller shops and restaurants mixed in with commercial businesses. On 17th Avenue SW you’ll find plenty of restaurants, pubs and clubs.

 

The community centre frequently hosts dance groups, including square dancers, the Mountain Swingers, and the Bow Valley Cloggers. There are also children’s art classes available.

 

Schools serving the community include Sacred Heart School, Sunalta School, Mount Royal School, Queen Elizabeth High School, and Western Canada High School.

 

Transit

Bow Trail and Crowchild Trail are the two major routes you’ll be using on a day to day basis. Sunalta C-train Station is within walking distance, though you can take the #2 Mt. Pleasant / Killarney 17th Ave or the #18 Lakeview bus lines if you need to head somewhere else. You’re a short drive to both the University of Calgary and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), though you should be warned that Crowchild tends to bottleneck during rush hour.

 

Lifestyle

Sunalta’s name is rumored to come from a combination of “Sunny Alberta” – though that fun fact hasn’t been officially verified. Expect life in this inner city community to be more active. We’re talking an annual pancake breakfast, spring clean up, block parties, and a Christmas Party. This is a great place to live if you’re the type of person who wants to know and make friends with their neighbors.
