When you drive through Chinook Park, the first thing you notice is it’s proximity to one of Calgary’s most famous and family-friendly attractions: Heritage Park. Being close to Heritage Park also means you’re close to one of the larger parks in Calgary, the Glenmore Reservoir. Chinook Park is bounded on the north by 75th Avenue SW, on the east by Elbow Drive, on the south by Heritage Drive, and on the west by 14th Street SW and Heritage Park.

Let’s talk about green spaces. First, if you walk to the immediate north of the community, you’ll find Kelvin Grove Park. The Glenmore Reservoir is a short drive away, and Heritage Park is within walking distance. There is also a community centre which offers a diverse range of activities, including yoga, karate, highland dancing, and wood carving.

 

Come the winter, lace up your skates and head to one of the community rinks for a game of hockey. When the ice melts? One of the rinks is paved, which means you can enjoy inline skating. There are also tennis courts in the area. As for shopping, there is a pair of strip malls to the east, and Chinook Centre is a short drive away.

 

Chinook Park Bilingual Elementary and Henry Wisewood High School serve the community.

 

Transit

There are three major routes for residents of Chinook Park – 14th Street SW, Elbow Drive, and Glenmore Trail. If you work downtown, you can take Elbow or Macleod directly into the core. Work in the medical profession? Then good news – you’re just down the street from Rockyview Hospital. If you’d prefer transit, the Heritage C-train station is just a few blocks away, and the #3 Sandstone/Elbow Drive and #20 Heritage/Northmount bus lines run through the community.

Put on your scariest costume and head down to Chinook Park for the annual Halloween party – a truly spooktacular neighborhood event! Come winter, this friendly and involved community also hosts a skating party for residents. These are just some of the activities you can expect when you live in Chinook Park.

 

Of course, touring Heritage Park and dipping into the candy shop is also a local favourite, as is making the trek to Chinook Mall for some shopping and a movie.
